IATEFL — International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language

IATEFL was founded in 1967 by Bill Lee, editor of the ELT Journal, as a charity under UK law. Its principal aim is to link, develop and support English language teaching professionals worldwide. IATEFL aims to be at the forefront of international teacher development by encouraging members to share state-of-the-art knowledge and innovative professional skills. This is achieved by various means, including

  • inviting existing associations to work with IATEFL as associates;
  • helping to set up new teachers’ associations around the world;
  • hosting an annual conference for 2,000 at-venue and 50,000 online delegates;
  • producing online bulletins, print-medium magazines/newsletters, ...
