- access layer
The routing layer containing the access routers.
- access router
A router that is directly connected to the switches used for final delivery of packets.
- Address Resolution Protocol (ARP)
Used to determine the Ethernet address associated with a specific IP address on a LAN.
- administrative or admin distance
A number assigned to every IP routing protocol used to determine the best route to a destination when the route is learned from more than one routing protocol. The route with the lowest administrative distance is considered to be the best route.
- aggregation
Grouping multiple destinations into one address. Also referred to as information hiding or summarization.
