The Power of Lighting

Several years ago, I was working in my office and the telephone rang. It was one of the managers of ARRI’s lighting division—he’s a film production guy and a real straight-shooter. The conversation went something like this:

“Hi, Bill. If this is a good time, we have a few of us here in New York meeting, and we’re all on the speaker phone right now.”

“Okay”, I say. “What can I do for you guys?”

“Well, we have a question for you. What is a digital light kit?”

Sounding like a setup to a new production joke, I answer, “I don’t know. What is a digital light kit?”

“No” he says. “We’re asking you. What is a digital light kit?”
