What is .Mac?

.Mac: Formerly known as iTools, .Mac (pronounced dot mac) is a suite of services and tools, described below, that have been expanded from the iTools features. Membership is $99 a year. To sign up for a .Mac account, go to www.apple.com, click the “.mac” tab at the top of the page, then click “Join Now.” Or you can sign up for a free 60-day trial membership. After you’ve signed up, log in with your new member name and password.

.Mac email accounts (an IMAP email account with a “mac.com” address) have up to 15MB of storage space on Apple’s servers (you can buy more on their web site). You can also add up to ten “email-only” accounts.
