Chapter 27. Applications on Your Mac
Mac OS X includes a number of small but useful applications. This chapter explains what each of these does and when to use it.
If you’re an experienced Mac user, you might notice that some applications written specifically for Mac OS X do not come in folders—they come in one file called a “package.” For instance, you know that iMovie must have hundreds of supporting files, yet you only have one icon for iMovie—no folder full of stuff. These packages have a file name extension of .app. If you get special plug-ins and other files to customize your application, they will be stored in your user’s Library folder (or the main Library folder, if everyone on the Mac has access to the customized tools).
