Original File Could Not Be Opened

If something happened to the original file, like it got thrown in the Trash and the Trash was emptied, or maybe the original is on a removable disk, you’ll get the message shown below.

If you think the file is just lost on your Mac, you can try the “Fix Alias...” button. This takes you to a dialog box exactly like an “Open” dialog box, and you can choose a file to link to the alias. But if the computer couldn’t find the original, don’t count on finding it yourself. Unfortunately, the original is probably gone and all that “Fix Alias” will do is let you link this alias to a different file.
