Linking an Alias to a New Original

If necessary, you can link an alias to a different original. It doesn’t even have to be the same sort of file; that is, if the alias is a folder icon and you now link it to a document, the alias icon will change to a document icon. The name of the alias, however, will not change to the name of the file you now link it to—you’ll have to change the alias name yourself.

1.
Click once on the alias to select it.
2.
Press Command I to get the Get Info box.
3.
Click the button, “Select New Original... .”
4.
You’ll get a dialog box, which is actually the same as the “Fix Alias” dialog box that you see on the opposite page. Find the file you want to link to this alias, and click OK.
