Close or minimize all of the Windows

There are a number of ways to close or minimize all windows at once.

  • To simultaneously close every window that is open on your Desktop, hold down the Option key while you click in any window’s Close button (the red one); all the windows will go away one after another!

  • In the File menu there is a command to “Close Window.” If you hold down the Option key, that command changes to “Close All.”

  • The keyboard shortcut to close a window is Command W. To close all the windows at once, press Command Option W.

  • To minimize all the windows at once, hold down the Option key and click the Minimize button (the yellow one) in the upper-left corner of any window. This also works in applications when ...
