Using the Mouse

You’ll use the mouse in several different ways. Always, the mouse sits on a flat surface and you roll it around with your hand on top of it, your index finger resting on the front end of the mouse (the part that clicks). We often call the front part of the mouse the “button,” even though there’s not really a button. Do not hold the mouse in the palm of your hand, and do not pick it up and point it at the screen.

Single-click

A single click is a quick, light touch on the front end of the mouse, with the “cursor”—a pointer, an I-beam (page 196) or other shape—located at the spot of your choice on the screen.
