Active tag. A tag that has its own power source such as a battery, and can initiate the communication by sending its own signal.

Actual versus predicted traffic rate (APTR). The variance of the actual tag traffic from the predicted tag traffic through an interrogation zone over a time period. The predicted tag traffic rate can come from the ATTV measurements in the past.

Adjacent channel interference. The interference from a signal with the frequency close to the operating frequency of the RFID system.

Air interface protocols. Set of protocols that define the rules for communication between tags and readers.
