Appendix E. Introduction to Probability and Statistics
Some of the concepts and techniques in this book are based on probability and statistics. In particular, the chapters on estimation, risk, and uncertainty in Part VI. If you are not already familiar with the subject, or it's been a long time since you've used it and could use a refresher, this appendix provides an overview. This appendix explains the basic concepts of probability, presents a set of probability axioms, and explains probability functions.
