I’D LIKE to believe that my career in retail never really began but rather always existed. As a little girl, I remember weaving in and out of stores with my mother and two sisters, always on the hunt for something for one of us. My mom—a competitive shopper who knew of every sale, new store opening, and special promotion that would be taking place—considered shopping more of a pastime than a responsibility. I, on the other hand, enjoyed our shopping experiences for much different reasons. Instead of being excited over a new top or some shoes, I would gravitate to the checkout area and try to chat with one of the sales associates about working in retail.
