Chapter 5. Beginning Control with Project Initiation

TROUBLED PROJECTS FREQUENTLY HAVE tentative beginnings. Control begins as soon as the project does, ideally with both the leader and the project team fully engaged and ready to “hit the ground running.” To do this, you will need the support of your sponsor, solid documentation, and a project start-up workshop.

Your project sponsor has considerable organizational authority, at least enough to initiate your project. This person’s authority can be useful to you, regardless of how much or little formal authority you may have.
