Recording the production

By the time the programme comes to be recorded, either in the studio or on location, the bulk of the research should have been done. There may still be items to check, but at this stage the researcher's role is one of monitoring what is happening to see if any new developments require changes to be made, reacting to circumstances and general dogsbodying so that the recording process goes ahead smoothly. On a live broadcast, however, or when collecting and setting up interviewees on the spot for, perhaps, a vox pop (see p. 70), the role is a more active one.
