Chapter 8. Standards

Standards are always out of date. That is what makes them standards.

Alan Bennett (Forty Years On, 1969)

This short chapter summarizes various important standards that the modern business analyst should be aware of. Since SOA is essentially a standards-based technology, this is important. However, since standards are subject to rapid evolution, especially in this dynamic area of computing, I do not go into detail or repeat what has been said and some of the standards in earlier chapters. Instead, I have chosen to provide references from which the reader may obtain the latest information. Mostly, of course, these are references to web sites.

We divide the standards up into standards for business process modelling, standards for web services and other standards that are relevant in some way or other.
