3.8. Bibliographical Notes

Several standard texts describe conventional approaches to requirements engineering. These include those by Davis (1993), Gause and Weinberg (1989) and Macaulay (1996). Wieringa (1996) is a popular text that provides extensive guidance on how to analyse requirements using functional decomposition, entity - relationship models and JSD, and emphasizes the production of written requirements specifications but says little about knowledge elicitation. The approach is basically an extension of Information Engineering or SSADM and, as such, would not suit either a service-oriented or agile approach to development.

This chapter only gave a tiny glimpse of Jackson's (2001) problem frame method. The reader is strongly encouraged to study the original text - though warned that it is not exactly bedtime reading. His 1995 book on requirements engineering is a modern classic.

The topic of how to use business objective priorities in project management is discussed further by Graham (2009).
