Chapter 13

Component Details

Premade components are widely available and can add context, scale, and action to a model. They are easy to obtain and insert, and they can effectively be used to convey a sense of realism and context. Although you can and sometimes should make your own components, creating original components is beyond the scope of this book. See SketchUp for Site Design (Wiley, 2009) to learn more about creating original components.

This chapter reviews the type of component detail from which architecture, site, and interior models can benefit. It includes reviews of websites with premade components and search parameters that will help you quickly build a library of recommended components for detailing. Chapter 14 will teach you the best practices for placing and organizing these premade objects.
