The commands listed in this appendix are some of the most common commands used in Red Hat Linux. An example is provided in cases where the command seems ambiguous. With each of these commands, the man pages can provide additional information, as well as more examples.

Remember that the GUI environments (like GNOME and KDE) provide tools that supplement or replace many of the commands listed. GUI tools are easier to learn but command-line environments tend to be more flexible and faster once you learn them.

If your focus is general UNIX, you will want to learn the regular commands since the wonderful tools in the GUI environments are not available in most versions of UNIX.
