ps

The ps command displays information about currently active processes. Table A.4 shows some common ps options. Note that ps options do not need to be separated by a hyphen(-).

Common ps options

pidsDisplays information only on the specified processes, which are presented in a comma-delimited list
aLists all processes
lProduces a verbose listing
rExcludes processes that are not running
tttyDisplays only processes running on the specified terminal (tty)
uIncludes user name and start time
xIncludes processes without an associated terminal
SIncludes information on child processes
