ps
The ps command displays information about currently active processes. Table A.4 shows some common ps options. Note that ps options do not need to be separated by a hyphen(-).

| pids | Displays information only on the specified processes, which are presented in a comma-delimited list |
| a | Lists all processes |
| l | Produces a verbose listing |
| r | Excludes processes that are not running |
| ttty | Displays only processes running on the specified terminal (tty) |
| u | Includes user name and start time |
| x | Includes processes without an associated terminal |
| S | Includes information on child processes |
