I have known many artists and can even attempt to put them into two categories:

Structured Artists—artists who are emotionally tied to their subject matter, techniques, tools, materials, and place of work (the studio). They are easy to document and emulate.

Spontaneous Artists—artists who are not emotionally tied to any particular subject matter, techniques, tools, materials, or place of work. Experimentation is their most valuable technique, and questions are their tools to investigate the environment. The present-moment environment is their place of work.
