Chapter 15. XLinks and XPointers
This chapter is all about creating connections between documents and part of documents—the XLink and XPointer specifications. In HTML, you have hyperlinks, but XML has gone far beyond that and uses the XLink, XPointer, XPath, and XBase specifications.
Unfortunately, this is an area of XML where the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is far ahead of the rest of the world. No concrete implementations of any of these specifications exist yet. We'll see all these specifications implemented in future software, but for now, most of the material in this chapter is waiting for actual software implementation.
