The idea of a paperless office has long been a dream of Shangri-la, a place where no one would have to be burdened with paper cuts and filing cabinets. Instead, all documents would be electronic, easily read on any computer platform, easily stored on disk or somewhere on the Internet. Adobe has done its part in bringing us closer to this utopia with its Acrobat format, which lets you build and edit Portable Document Format (PDF) files from almost any program. These PDF files, in turn, can be viewed on any computer that has a reader program (which is free from www.adobe.com and available for Macintosh, Windows, Linux, and even Palm operating systems).
