Covering a wedding, a concert, or a sporting event imposes special challenges in preproduction. Although some of these assignments can be shot using a simple, straightforward news-style approach, weddings, concerts, and ballgames generally follow predictable formats—so you can approach them as structured, film-style shoots. For most intents and purposes, they are scripted events.

Still, no two of these events are ever the same—their novelty and delight involve the elements of spontaneity and surprise. Since you'll want to capture those unique moments on tape, you can't avoid some improvisational shooting. However, spontaneous shots are tough to plan for.
