Developing a Budget

The budget for your project will combine labor rates for cast and crew, purchase and/or rental of equipment, cost of construction materials and props, and support services such as transportation and meals. The price of each resource will be multiplied by the number of days you'll need it.

By movie industry convention, each of the breakdown items in Table 8.4 is associated with a specific budget category for accounting purposes. Accounting schemes vary, but in our sample budget Cast, Day Players, and Stunts are grouped under account number 1400; Special Effects goes into account 2600; all lighting equipment and gaffer services are listed in Electrical Rig, Operations, and Strike under account 3200, and so on.
