Meet Your Lighting Crew
Lighting a set is a complex activity that's very difficult to do by yourself. To light film style you need crew members to place lights, rig them, and move them around between takes. (For techniques on lighting news-style shoots, see “Three-Point Lighting, News Style” later in this chapter.)
In professional film and video production, job descriptions for lighting technicians have become quite specialized. Feature-film production crews have a strict division of labor—and union rules to enforce it. Even if your production is small, someone will need to perform these functions, and your lighting crew members will probably end up wearing more than one hat.
