There are two ways to get images from the camera to the computer. The first way is to connect your camera directly to the computer with a data cable. This method has several disadvantages. It requires that your camera be out on the desk with a cable dangling from it, rather than safe in your camera bag. It also consumes the batteries in your camera, and we'd rather save that power for photography. Also, during the time your camera is connected to the computer, you can't use it to photograph with.

The other method is to use a card reader to read the images directly from the digital media, without the need to connect the camera to the computer. We prefer using a card reader, but we'll address both methods and let you choose for yourself ...
