THIS journey began with a short lecture on Java RTS, given by Greg Bollella in August 2006 in Menlo Park, California. I was attending this lecture as part of a broader Sun training session, but Greg’s lecture was the high point for me. I had done development work on real-time systems in the past, but never with Java. Greg’s discussion of deadlines, predictability, Java’s garbage collection, and so on intrigued me, and began my feverish interest in the topic.
