About the Author

George M. Piskurich, Ph.D., is an independent consultant based in El Paso, Texas. He provides consulting services and workshops in instructional design, performance improvement, and e-learning to clients throughout the country. He specializes in performance/training analysis, the design and development of self-directed/individualized learning programs for all levels of the organization, e-learning interventions, multiple-site training systems, telecommuting interventions, and knowledge centers.

Dr. Piskurich has been a presenter and workshop leader at over thirty conferences and symposia, including the International Self-Directed Learning Symposium, the Best of America Conference, and the ISPI and ASTD international conferences. He is an active member of both ISPI and ASTD, where he has held local and national leadership positions. In 1986 he was ASTD's “Instructional Technologist of the Year.” He also won the “Best Use of Instructional Technology in Business” award in 1992 for his distributed SDL technical skills training design.

He has edited books on instructional technology, e-learning, Human Performance Technology, and program development, written books on self-directed learning, instructional design, training basics, telecommuting, and fly fishing, and authored many journal articles and book chapters on various topics, including customer service, structured mentoring, and corporate downsizing.
