Doing It Right: Development

This chapter will help you to:

  • Discover the end products of development for various delivery systems
  • Create effective facilitator guides and participant manuals
  • Consider various trainee activities that can be developed
  • Determine and create the right media for your training

............With your training plan in hand, you should have chunks of content decided and placeholders for introductions, activities, summaries, tests, and so forth. Your next task is to create the development end products that match your chosen delivery system. This is the process in training design known as development. Continuing with our metaphor of building a house, this chapter is where you add the floors and doors, windows and walls.

The best way to think about the development aspect of training design is to look at it from the point of view of your end product. When you've completed the development, what should you have?

The specific answer to this question depends on what type of delivery system you have chosen, but in general you should end up with a sound piece of instruction.
