This attribute, in effect, is the
NAS gear’s Caller ID function. The value in this
attribute carries the number of the calling party inside an
Access-Request
packet. This can be used both for
convenience and security purposes. For instance, different
access-control lists can be created, only allowing callers from
certain places to be authenticated. As well, a regional POP could be
managed and limited by only allowing callers from certain area codes
and exchanges. This attribute could also be used in conjunction with
a callback service. Much of the configuration of what the NAS gear
does with the Calling-Station-ID
attribute is
environment specific; there is no standard manner to handle
the attribute.
