Drama – principles

We all love stories and the radio medium has a long and distinguished history of turning thoughts, words and actions into satisfying pictures within the listener’s mind by using the techniques of drama. But there is no need for the producer to think only in terms of the Shakespeare play – the principles of radio drama apply to the well-made 30-second commercial, a programme trail, dramatised reading, five-minute serial or two-minute teaching point in a programme for schools.
