This chapter describes functions from extension packages that produce complete plots that are either reasonably common or well known or arise from a common type of data, but are not catered for by high-level functions in the core R graphics packages.

An important feature of the various R graphics systems is that they are generally built for extensibility. If there is not a function that already produces a particular image, there are functions that can be put together to produce that image, given enough time and patience.

However, it can be much faster to get a result if someone else has already done at least some of the work, so it is often worthwhile using an existing function if one can be found. ...
