Know Your Animal Anatomy

A rare treat for me is to visit the zoo. It is at the zoo that you not only get to draw the animals but the people watching the animals as well! Before a trip to the zoo or to just draw four-legged animals, take some time to look at an anatomy book on the skeletal makeup of the animals you wish to draw.

There are two basic points to be aware of. The first is some animals, for example cats, whether large or small, have shoulder blades (scapula) which rise up higher than their spine when the weight of the body is taken on the front legs.
