When sketching those who sit, keep in mind weight, as in dead weight. Muscles for the most part are relaxed and gravity pulls the body downward. There is a spread-out effect on the part of the body (usually the buttocks) in contact with whatever is being sat on. Our basic shape is the triangle, with the base of the triangle taking the weight (see the figure on page 102 as an example). In this relaxed state the arms and legs hang downward unless they are involved in doing something.
