THE ABILITY TO IMPORT AND MANIPULATE GRAPHICS—photos, illustrations, charts, and such—has been a hallmark of page layout software since the dawn of desktop publishing in the 1980s. In addition to standard image-manipulation features like crop and scale, QuarkXPress 8 also includes many features that were once available only in image-editing software—features like unsharp masking (edge sharpening), brightness and contrast adjustment, and tonal adjustment.
