Glossary

angular momentum     A measure of a rolling, spinning, or orbiting body’s tendency to keep rolling, spinning, or orbiting.

anti-symmetric wave function     A wave function that changes its sign (e.g., from positive to negative) when any two particles are switched, but nothing else about it changes.

atom     A tiny particle of matter, possessing unique properties that remain unchanged during chemical processes.

band gap     The difference in energy between the top of the valence band and the bottom of the conduction band according to the quantum theory of solids.

Bell’s inequality     A mathematical relationship between certain correlated measurements that is satisfied in the presence of local hidden variables.
