Thus far, we have worked with a quantum mechanical wave for electrons and similar particles, we have worked with classical waves for electric and magnetic fields, and we have introduced a quantum mechanical way of looking at electric and magnetic fields through the use of boson annihilation and creation operators. The use of these operators for boson modes led to the quantization of the electromagnetic field into photons.
