Chapter 24. Use of Tools

Project managers use two drivers in the use of tools: the life cycle and the model for process improvement. As discussed in Chapter 19, “Introduction to Software Engineering,” the IEEE Computer Society and ACM Software Engineering Coordinating Committee have joined together to produce the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK). The software engineering and development tools that support the project life cycle are covered in the SWEBOK. Table 24-1 shows the SWEBOK tools with the addition of the design tools for verification and optimization.
