Summary

Case study methodology is an important set of strategies in social scientific research. It is an approach commonly used to better understand a complex phenomenon within its context. There are various ways of classifying case studies: single case studies, multiple case studies, multiple site case studies, and comparative case studies. They are intended to produce thick descriptions for the purpose of thoroughly explaining the case itself (intrinsic) or to build or test theories (instrumental).
