In this chapter, you build simple and more advanced visualizations for profitability analysis. In the process of doing so, we introduce you to the following techniques of building advanced QlikView visualizations:
- Creating dynamic dimensions and dynamic expressions through the use of variables
- Combo charts
- Waterfall charts
- Normalized and non-normalized Mekko charts
- Scatter charts
- Heat maps and block charts
- Advanced Set Analysis and advanced search in Set Analysis
- Organizing objects on a sheet using container objects

You need to download and install QlikView and Qlik Sense, download our electronic materials and preferably install our font. We describe all the necessary preparations at the end of the Introduction.
Simple Visualizations for Profitability Analysis
In this section, we describe the specific calculations for the various levels of profitability and build a simple P&L report.
You will store those formulas in variables that can be used multiple times within this application. We will describe various aspects of using variables for calculated formulas.
Then you’ll develop a few simple charts, mostly based on the material that you learned in the process of developing the Sales Analysis application in Chapter 5.
