In December 2008, Python 3.0 was released—a major update to the Python language that breaks backwards compatibility with Python 2 in a number of critical areas. A fairly complete survey of the changes made to Python 3 can be found in the “What’s New in Python 3.0” document available at http://docs.python.org/3.0/whatsnew/3.0.html. In some sense, the first 26 chapters of this book can be viewed as the polar opposite of the “What’s New” document. That is, all of the material covered so far has focused on features that are shared by both Python 2 and Python 3.
