Ease

Before we even set foot on this Earth, we enter into a contract that binds us to making an effort. No wonder babies cry when they first arrive. In this world there’s no free milk. If you want dinner, you’d better make that very clear. And things don’t get any better for us adults. To make life work we have to make a bigger effort still.

But most of us want an easy life. We want the fruits without the labour. So we play the lottery, gamble and take chances in the hope of striking it rich. Then, if we’re lucky, we can have it all without the hard work. But an easy life doesn’t come without effort. Even lottery winners discover their riches won’t stop the weeds from growing in their garden or their shoes from getting scuffed. ...
