Chapter 14. The Internet Inter-ORB Protocol

The Internet Inter-ORB Protocol is a vendor-independent communication protocol that was designed by the OMG to facilitate the transfer of CORBA requests from one ORB to another and, as such, is primarily focused on ORB-to-ORB communication. This chapter discusses the IIOP protocol, as well as the General Inter-ORB Protocol (GIOP) from which IIOP is derived, from a CORBA developer’s perspective. The lower-level details (such as header structures) of the specifications are actually relevant only to those designing and implementing an ORB and are not of particular interest to CORBA application developers.
