Pricing Your Book for Maximum Profit on Amazon

If you want to sell your e-book only from your own website, or via Smashwords (described in Chapter 14), simply consider what price point would maximize its sales and revenue. For example, if you average ten daily e-book sales at $9.99 ($99.90 per day) and nine daily sales at $11.99 ($107.91 per day), stick with the $11.99 price. On the other hand, if raising the price from $9.99 to $11.99 makes sales drop to seven copies per day ($83.30), you’ll make more with the $9.99 price point.

If you want to sell your e-book on Amazon, though, keep these two crucial points in mind:

check.png Amazon will lower the price of your e-book to match the lowest available online price. You should maintain consistent pricing across all stores and sites that sell your e-book.

check.png Amazon uses two royalty rates. You receive 70 percent of the sale price on books priced between $2.99 and $9.99, and you receive only 35 percent on books priced outside this range.
