Creating Your E-Book

In this part . . .

With your finished manuscript in hand, you’re ready to create an e-book. This project isn’t as simple as uploading a Microsoft Word document to Amazon.com — your e-book must be formatted correctly so that every word of it looks good to readers.

The first step is to give your Word manuscript a spring-cleaning, as I describe in Chapter 4. In Chapter 5, I show you how to put in place an appealing and inexpensive cover design.

Next, you can create an instant e-book in PDF format by using the simple instructions in Chapter 6. If your book has lots of bells and whistles, such as video, turn to Chapter 7 to try out iBooks Author. Finally, in Chapter 8, I walk you through using the free software Calibre to create MOBI and EPUB files, which are compatible with all e-readers (MOBI for the Amazon Kindle and EPUB for other e-readers).
