I absolutely love to hear stories about people negotiating their way to better interest rates, reduced fees, and getting their money back. (Is that weird?) On Bank of Mom & Dad, I worked with a young woman and helped her convince her bank to lower the interest rate on a credit card, which ultimately helped reduce her minimum monthly payments from $1,800 a month to $400 a month. We ran the math and found that if she continued to pay $1,800 a month with the new lower interest rate, she’d be out of debt in less than 5 years, versus 30.
