Chapter Ten. Implementing Your Proven Portal

Throughout this book we have discussed principles of portal design, documented best practices, and seen them used in case studies of proven portals. Now it is time to turn our attention to designing and deploying your own portal. In this chapter we outline a road map to take you from recognizing the need for a portal to implementing and maintaining a sustainable, well-adopted system. There are four basic steps in this process.

  1. Understand the business drivers.

  2. Design the portal.

  3. Assess the ROI.

  4. Incrementally implement and adapt the portal.
