Chapter 12: Testing Your Prototype

Testing is often the ultimate goal of prototyping. Even if it’s not the ultimate goal, then it should be one of the major milestones along the way.

Usability testing is an entire industry. Usability has its own professional organizations: the UPA (Usability Professionals Organization) and the ACM’s SIGCHI. Many books have been written on usability testing, notably Usability Engineering by Jakob Nielsen and A Practical Guide to Usability Testing by Joseph Dumans and Janice Redish. There’s even an entire U.S. government site dedicated to the subject, http://usability.gov.

With all this information readily available, it’s a wonder that so many mistakes are commonly made during usability testing. Well, not really. ...
