Transfers of Copyright

Any or all of the copyright owner's exclusive rights may be transferred but the transfer of exclusive rights is not valid unless it is in writing and signed by the owner of the rights conveyed or the owner's duly authorized agent.

Because copyright owners have a variety of different rights (the right to reproduce, adapt, distribute, perform, and display their works), they may transfer all or any portion of these rights to another.
