Filing and Other Formalities

The completed application should be filed with the PTO by U.S. mail or hand delivery. The PTO prefers original applications but will accept copies. Applicants may also use the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS). TEAS allows an applicant to fill out an application form and check it for completeness over the Internet. Using e-TEAS, the applicant submits the application directly to the PTO over the Internet, paying by credit card or an existing deposit account. A specimen can be submitted later.
